Moot Court Theme for 2017

“Exploring the Arctic, or the Case of Nickel Ore”

The Competition’s assignment for 2017 offers participants the chance to analyze a series of relevant social and economic issues in light of constitutional principles and norms, in particular:

- balancing interests of various federal subjects while developing a policy of stable development for single-industry cities;

- regulating conflicts between organizations representing native peoples and mining companies;

- preventing forced assimilation of native peoples and preserving their traditional ways of life.

Teams will need to prepare legal positions both as applicants and as commissioned government organs.  In preparing the documents, the participants must demonstrate their skills in analysis, selection of relevant facts, research, and implementing practices of the Russian Constitutional Court and international legal institutions, as well as documents of international organizations, legal acts of foreign countries, and doctrinal sources.

Participants must be law students of Russian institutes of higher learning who have completed at least one year of studies by the registration due date (September 20, 2017).  This includes masters students of any specialty.  Team coaches may be graduate students or faculty members of the institute of higher learning.

The Competition’s language is Russian.
