29.04.2017 On April 25 the seminar for students on Appeal to the European Court of Human Rights was held in Voronezh

On April 25, 2017 the Voronezh Human Rights House, with the support of the Institute for Law and Public Policy, conducted a training for law students on Basics of the Protection of Rights at the European Court of Human Rights.

The event was held within the project Enhancing Civic Engagement in Strategic Constitutional Litigation in Russia.

The seminar was attended by 30 students who participate in the work of the legal clinic of the Voronezh State Agrarian University. The head of the clinic Tatyana Kutsenko noted that it was interesting and useful for the students to learn the information about the practice of handling and conducting cases at the European Court of Human Rights.

The seminar was condected by lawyers Natalia Zvyagina, coordinator of legal programs and civil action networks of the Interregional Human Rights Group Voronezh/Chernozemye, and Dmitry Makarov, lawyer, co-chairman of the Coordinating Council of the International Youth Human Rights Movement.

At the beginning of the seminar, the students learned about the importance of the European Court of Human Rights as a tool for the development of norms and standards in the field of human rights. Then the coaches told about the mechanisms and principles of the work of the international institute.

The Voronezh Human Rights House plans to hold similar seminars within the project Enhancing Civic Engagement in Strategic Constitutional Litigation in Russia and beyond. Universities and legal clinics are invited to participate in the seminars.
